Spotlight on RubyLaw: Single Sign-On (SSO)

In recent years, and particularly in 2020—as much of the global workforce shifted to remote and virtual environments—we have seen security become an increasingly important issue. In fact, in a recent study conducted by Fudo Security, more than 42% of security executives said that the pandemic has changed their cybersecurity priorities.

CIOs across the legal sector are tightening up security at every level, and one frequent CIO-led request is for Single Sign-On (“SSO”) support within RubyLaw. SSO is a session and user authentication service that allows users to apply one set of login credentials, e.g., a name and password, to access multiple applications.

RubyLaw’s secure SSO:
—Provides a centralized user authentication management apparatus for RubyLaw users
—Enforces unique logins per-user, meaning that each user must have their own unique login
—Conforms to firm IT policies and procedures for usernames, password strength requirements, password age/renewal, and Multi-factor Authentication (“MFA”)
—Logs all login successes and failures in firm security systems

How does it work?

Most firms that require SSO use Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (“ADFS”) or third-party providers like Azure AD, Okta, or Duo to manage centralized logins. RubyLaw SSO, available as an add-on module in RubyApps 21 (the newest version of RubyApps), supports integration with these SSO authentication sources to securely control user access to RubyLaw.

Integration of RubyLaw SSO with your centralized authorization source is an efficient process. Once we confirm the details of how your users will access RubyLaw, our team exchanges specific configuration details with your IT team and/or third-party authorization provider. We then perform integration testing, and launch the SSO-enabled RubyLaw instance. Most integrations can be performed within days of upgrading to the latest version of RubyApps.
